May 30th, 2008 - A fabulously loose end…
Just a quick note to let everyone know that Cameron had his central line removed yesterday without any complications and today had his last round of radiation therapy. Woo hoo! He and Leigh have just arrived back home and it feels like this dark cloud that has been shadowing our family since February has finally lifted.. even though it’s pouring with rain and 17c here right now… ha ha. It didn’t really begin to sink in until I saw Cameron without his line in. Thank you Lord for countless blessings. Special thanks also, to the many, many people who have been supporting, encouraging and loving Cameron, as well as the rest of us over this period. This includes all our friends and family in the UK, Europe, South Africa, America, New Zealand and across Australia; our awesome church family at MBC; the management, staff and many, many parents at SCGS; the Oncology team and all of the wonderful staff and families at Royal Children’s Hospital, Brisbane; The Leukaemia Foundation and Childhood Cancer Support and last, but not least of course to the one person who deserves a very special mention, Elicia, who is the ultimate crusader. You have all touched us in such a special way.
A more comprehensive report of the past week and what will be happening next as far as final tests and so go, is to follow just as soon as Leigh gets to it, as she is a bit of a mover and shaker now as she arrived home to receive a formal invitation in the mail, to join the Queensland Children’s Hospital Family Advisory Council, which meets once a month and provides advice to the hospital CEO on a wide range of issues. Of course she was delighted to accept the role. And one final footnote that seems to somehow provide a fitting conclusion to this period… this coming Monday Leigh, Cameron, Carlton, Owen and myself will be attending our Aussie citizenship ceremony, which basically means the next time the Boks, All Blacks, England and Australia enter a semi-final, we have a 75% chance of winning! It also means we’re actually allowed to call oursleves official supporters of the Reds, but continuing to support the Sharks, particularly against the Reds becomes an illegal activity, for which we can be banned from the City of Brisbane and in extreme cases deported from Queensland, but we do get free lifetime membership of that underground movement…
Cheers and thanks again all.

Hey Cam! So glad to hear the good news! I agree with aunty Dee – we know you all secretly support the Bokke! Aunty Rosie and Uncle Ian spent the night with Shaun and I last night and we were all thinking of you and chatting about when your treatment will be over and then I go on your site and I read that your treatment is over! How awesome is that! I am so happy for you all! You have been so strong through everything! Wish I was with you all! Shaun and I would love to come over and see you all! Hopefully one day soon, we will be able to plan a trip to Aus to visit all of you! Lots of love and hugs and kisses to you all and Cam, congratulations on being so strong and brave and now all the treatment is over! Well done! Lots of love Cagz and Shaun

Hamish here. So glad your treatment is over. Look forward to seeing you back at school when you are also an Australian Citizen.
P.S. Don’t know why you still want to support the Springbox when the Aussies are superior in every way.

Hi Cam, Well, well well. I am so pleased to see/hear that you have taken it all so well and have at last finished all the nasty treatment. Dad I can hear is more pleased than all the rest but believe me no more than all of the family here in SA. I was on the line to EVERYONE that may not have access to the net and they all send you their very best wishes. I pray that there will be litle or no more discomfort for you and may God’s blessings remain to be an ever strong reminder that we are all only children in his eyes, that means we are all vulnerable to his wishes. sometimes good and sometimes bad, but with the faith that was shown by so many, he has shown many the way. May we all remain on his side…Amen. Keep smiling my boy, and perhaps now you can drop me a line like we discussed some time ago. Give Mom, Dad Owen and Carlton a big hug from me. Love you lots. Love from all in SA Grandad Bill Cape Town SA
