March 7th, 2008 - Great news! (and new Video)

The good news is Cameron is bouncing right back after this second round of chemotherapy. He is, in his own words, err… “fine”. He had his last chemo dose of the week today. Next Wednesday he will have another and that will mark the end of this cycle. Cameron did experience a little nausea today but he has managed to keep down the little food he has eaten today. However, the really, really, really fabulous news is that the plan right now is for our incredibly brave little man to be discharged from the ward and come home tomorrow! That plan will stick so long as his body is able to cope without the fluids he has been having infused until this afternoon and his temperature remains normal and he doesn’t start to feel unwell.

We are all so excited at the prospect of all being reunited at home once again…  Cameron will still need to visit the hospital in Brisbane quite frequently and will be admitted for the 3-4 days at the commencement of each new chemotherapy cycle, but for so long as he remains without infections or other complications he will be living at home. At this point it seems there isn’t much else to say except a huge thank you to the countless people who have been so incredibly supportive and of course to our God. We simply cannot thank any of you enough. Cameron still has some way to go in this journey, but your prayers and encouragement have made a remarkable difference already

Meanwhile I have finally managed to pull a collection of recent video material together, which I think provides a reasonable summary of the events to date. Enjoy.

    Hi Cam
What great wonderful news!!!! I am so happy for you and your mom and dad and brothers. We think of you here a lot, Thomas is visiting Innsbruck with his girlfriend, they have been staying with Manuella as Martin and I were in Vienna for 4 days, they all went snowboarding/skiing so Innsbruck is the easier place to be. I will fetch them this evening then they can stay here the weekend they are flying back to London on Monday. But you take care you brave young Man and look after yourself. I wish I could give you a big hug but I am so far away, but I am sure your mom or dad will do it for me. Sweet dreams and God Bless. Love Dee Martin Manuella and Kenneth xxxx

    Hey Cam,
Great to hear your good news. By the way we have a Lifegroup afternoon at beach on Sunday from 3-5p.m. I know that you wouldn’t be able to come but if there is some way that we could come to you, just let us know. We are so keen to see you home. Thanks for the lovely cards. Did you really want to make us all cry??? We’ve decided that your Dad must spend lots of time at night editing videos when he can’t sleep. It was such a good record of your journey so far and to think it has only been 5 weeks. You are such a precious young man and God is going to bless you soooooo much.
Josh has a really sick joke for you. It is worse than any of mine!!
How do you make a frog drink?
    Put it in a blender.
O.K. I’ll have to tutor Josh in the art of tasteful joke telling!!! By the way Carlton’s jokes are worse than mine!!!
    You can tell him that!
    Love Trish

So pleased you may be home already? I hope you are and that you begin to feel a little more at ease instaed of having all those people around and keeping you awake when you feel like a good old snooze!! Keep smiling, and tell Dad the video was well done and moved me to wishing I was there even just to hug you all for a little while!!! never mind soon I may pay another visit, and hopefully by then you would have made enough progress to get me on a surf board!!!!!! Ah!! So you think I can’t heh!? Just you wait and see!!!! Lots of love from all the family in South Africa. Grandad Bill XXX

PS You may just be getting messages from relatives you have never met, but they ALL wish you well so don’t be surprised. Love you my boy XXXXXXX By the way the South African rugby super 14 teams did fairly well so far this week-end!!!! The STORMERS played right there in Brisbane! Were you able to watch?? In case you didn’t, they won 34-16 against the REDS. The stormer are from here in Cape Town, where I live. XX

What a fantastic video you put together Bill. When you are on the other side of the world and feeling all the pain you must be going through, but not being able to pop by to show support, it really does feel great to see you all. Seeing the boys having such fun together brought a smile to our faces, and hearing Cams voice was great (what an accent he’s picked up since his English days!!)

It’s brillinat news to hear that you may be going home shortly Cam. You must all feel so excited. Make sure you keep that cricket bat somewhere safe when you get home, it looks very special, so don’t go using it to bash your brothers with!!

We are so full of admiration for how well you have coped so far on this journey. Leigh I really wish I could pop by to see you and to give you a big hug.

    Love to you all,
Jenny Andy, Alex & Aimee xxx
